Three Portuguese premieres in one session: two films by Beatriz Santiago Muñoz — Laurel Sabino y Jaguilla and New Materials, on Puerto Rico's endemic magnolias and the artist and poet Elizam Escobar — and Hassen Ferhani's Alea Jacarandas, an intimate journey through Algiers where writing, filming and choosing beauty become acts of resistance. Fernando Trueba's 1982 second feature, presented in a version restored by ECAM from the original 16mm negative, portrays composer and philosopher Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio — who wrote resistance songs against Franco — in his daily life and reflections, blending documentary portrait, musical, philosophical conversation and comedy. Portuguese premiere on 25 October at São Jorge.
