In Seville, the young Count Almaviva is determined to win over Rosina, a clever and sharp-witted young woman kept under the strict watch of her guardian, Dr. Bartolo. To achieve his goal, the Count relies on the help of Figaro, the city's ingenious barber, whose energy and intelligence will be decisive in overcoming every obstacle. Between disguises, misunderstandings and outlandish schemes, Rossini builds a vibrant story of love and freedom. Its famous arias, brilliant ensembles and demanding vocal writing make this work one of the highest expressions of Italian opera buffa. With a libretto by Cesare Sterbini, based on the comedy by Pierre-Augustin de Beaumarchais, The Barber of Seville premiered in Rome in 1816, quickly becoming one of the greatest successes of the operatic repertoire.
