The 2026–2027 season of the Academia da Pena travels through the eight ecclesiastical tones, one per month, and opens with the 1.º Tom da Pena at the 13 October Recital at Dusk: Frescobaldi, Coelho, Titelouze, Kerll and Bruna in five ways of saying the same thing. Wonder Women L’Arpeggiata and Christina Pluhar With Wonder Women, L’Arpeggiata and Christina Pluhar propose a celebration of the creative force, expressiveness, and artistic legacy of women over the centuries. At the center of this program are striking works by 17th-century women composers such as Barbara Strozzi, Francesca Caccini, and Antonia Bembo. For a long time relegated to the background compared to their male contemporaries, these creators played a fundamental role in the affirmation of a singular musical language, marked by boldness, sensitivity, and originality. The soloists Céline Scheen, Benedetta Mazzucato, and Vincenzo Capezzuto interpret tragic and comic narratives populated by passionate heroines, mystical saints, enchanting figures, and ordinary characters confronted with the universal themes of love, destiny, and devotion.
