The Azorean project Mar & Ilha returns to the capital for BOTA's World Music Week with a presentation concert of their latest album 'Cordas Primas', celebrating the Azorean viola da terra and its umbilical link to Portugal's traditional string instruments.
Brief introduction In the year celebrating seven years of existence and its concert debut on the mainland, after several incursions across the biggest stages of its archipelago, the Azorean project Mar&Ilha returns to the capital to take part in BOTA's World Music Week. In this presentation concert of the latest album, 'Cordas Primas', recorded and produced at West Wave Studio in Torres Vedras, the group celebrates the Azorean viola da terra and its umbilical connection to the musical universe of Portuguese traditional chordophones. This album by the trio made up of Sara Miguel (voice), Jorge Canarinho (viola da terra) and Manú Teixeira (percussion), and featuring various guest musicians representing different regions and playing traditions, reaffirms the fundamental role of Portuguese wire-string violas in the identity of Portuguese roots music. The band will also be joined by the group's resident guests, Ruben Monteiro (sanfona and viola braguesa) and Christian Marr's (guitar). Prices Entry - 12€
