The group MariaSilva revisits Portuguese traditional music with modern reinterpretations of themes from the popular songbook, from north to south of the country, in a concert as part of the V World Music Week BOTA.
Brief Introduction Inspired by the vast repertoire of popular melodies collected by ethnomusicologists such as Michel Giacometti and Armando Leça, as well as by the various Portuguese popular songbooks, the group MariaSilva emerged in 2021 with the purpose of revisiting Portuguese traditional music. Formed by Francisco Leite, Guilherme Lourinho, Gustavo Paixão, Inês Rodrigues da Silva and Miguel La Feria, the group stands out for its musical diversity and its search for new fusions between tradition and other styles. Their reinterpretations, though presented in a more modern garb, keep the memory of Portuguese traditions alive, helping to preserve and spread popular culture. The MariaSilva repertoire covers themes from the Portuguese songbook from north to south of the country, and also includes songs of other nationalities, notably from Latin America and northern Europe.
