Brief Introduction BIBLICAL PLANTS COURSE DATES | Saturday | 21 November HOURS | 14.00 to 18.00 TARGET AUDIENCE | M/16 years [indicative age] PARTICIPANTS | Min. 15, Max. 24 PRICE | € 45 In this course we will study the plants that, from a symbolic and theological perspective, are most frequently mentioned in the Holy Scriptures (Old and New Testament). We will also present plants that were important for the economy of Canaan and are also mentioned in the Bible. We will study some examples of the symbolism of plants in Medieval and Renaissance Sacred Art. We will see hundreds of images of plants and biblical places, complemented by dozens of plants and products made from them. Some of the questions we will seek to answer will be, for example: (1) What wood was the Ark of the Covenant made of; (2) What was the manna that fell from Heaven? (3) Which plant was the burning bush; (4) What were the lilies of the valley and the Rose of Sharon praised in the Song of Songs; (5) What symbolism was associated with the pomegranate; (6) Which plants were used in the anointing oils; (7) Where did frankincense and myrrh come from and what symbolism is associated with them; (8) What is the symbolism of palm leaves (palm branches); (9) What wood was used to make the Cross of Christ; (10) The Crown of Thorns was made from which plant; (11) Which is the Tree of Life; (12) What was the meaning of cherries, strawberries, walnuts, pears and apples in sacred art. Luís Mendonça de Carvalho is a biologist (UTAD), holds a master's degree in plant biochemistry (University of Lisbon), a doctorate in plant systematics and morphology (University of Coimbra), was a visiting scholar at Harvard University, is a professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja and director of the Botanical Museum of Beja. Breve Introdução cURSO PLANTAS BÍBLICAS DATAS | Sábado | 21 Novembro HORAS | 14.00 às 18.00 PÚBLICO ALVO | M/16 anos [idade indicativa] PARTICIPANTES | Mín. 15, Máx. 24 PREÇO | € 45 Neste curso estudaremos as plantas que, sob uma perspectiva simbólica e teológica, são com maior frequência referidas nas Sagradas Escrituras (Antigo e Novo Testamento). Apresentaremos, igualmente, plantas que foram importantes para a economia de Canaã e que são também elas mencionadas na Bíblia. Estudaremos alguns exemplos da simbologia das plantas na Arte Sacra Medieval e Renascentista. Veremos centenas de imagens de plantas e locais bíblicos, complementadas por dezenas de plantas e produtos produzidos a partir das mesmas. Algumas das questões às quais procuraremos responder, serão, por exemplo: (1) De que madeira era feita a Arca da Aliança; (2) O que era o maná caído do Céu? (3) Que planta era a sarça-ardente; (4) O que eram os lírios-do-vale e a Rosa de Sharon elogiados no Cântico dos Cânticos; (5) Que simbologia estava associada à romã; (6) Que plantas eram utilizadas nos óleos de unção; (7) De onde provinha o incenso e a mirra e qual a simbologia a eles associada; (8) Qual a simbologia das folhas de palmeira (ramos de palma); (9) Qual a madeira utilizada para fazer a Cruz de Cristo; (10) A Coroa-de-Espinhos foi feita a partir de que planta; (11) Qual é a Árvore-da-Vida; (12) Qual era o significado das cerejas, morangos, nozes, peras e maçãs na arte sacra. Luís Mendonça de Carvalho é biólogo (UTAD), mestre em bioquímica de plantas (Universidade de Lisboa), doutor em sistemática e morfologia de plantas (Universidade de Coimbra), visiting scholar na Universidade de Harvard, professor no Instituto Politécnico de Beja e director do Museu Botânico de Beja. Em caso de desistência: Haverá lugar ao reembolso do valor total da inscrição quando a desistência for comunicada até 8 dias úteis antes da actividade.
