A Barraca, directed by Maria do Céu Guerra with music by António Vitorino d'Almeida, dives into the lyric poetry of Luís de Camões — the Canções and above all the Sonnets — in a show about lived and invented love.

Full details

Synopsis In Deitemos Água Pouca em Muito Fogo, A Barraca approaches a part of the poet's work it had not yet worked on, encouraging the audience to love the poet, knowing why, through the crossing of his work with what our contemporary poets feel about it. It is in the lyric poems, in the Canções and above all in the Sonnets - the lyric form of greatest prestige, cultivated by Dante and Petrarch, in which every great poet had to prove himself - that our poet speaks of himself, as Ovid and other Latin poets did. We chose excerpts from Canção X as a hypothetical frame for the poet's life. A life story perhaps often invented, and which curiosity, the centuries and the silence of History have turned into reality. Lived love/invented love, always more truth than lie, but also as true as poetry can be. The Poetry of Luís de Camões is the best legacy he has left us. When the poet, in his writing, heightens his suffering of love, or any mistreatments of life, hunger or abandonment are hyperbolised, that is exactly how we want to read him, because that is how he wanted to be read. Camões the transgressor, his so certain 'secretary' does not bind himself to the confidence of biography, but to the greatness of creation. Show original (Portuguese)
