Brief Introduction When it comes to an octet, one is more tempted to call it a concerto for eight soloists, such is the prominence of the different parts in alternation. Franz Schubert's Deutsch 803 was written in 1824, in response to a commission from a Viennese aristocrat who played the clarinet, which explains why this instrument stands out from the ensemble on numerous occasions. However, the same applies to the bassoon, the horn or each of the strings involved. The result is a composition that challenges each performer, without exception, and also the listener. It is almost an hour of music that passes at the rhythm of a story being told, or a conversation being had. It is music in its purest state: sometimes restless, sometimes serene, sometimes exhilarating, other times calm and even elegant, flowing crystalline, cared for by someone who seems never to have lacked ideas. Breve Introdução Na vez de «octeto», mais apetece chamar-lhe concerto para oito solistas, tal é o protagonismo das diferentes partes em alternância. O Deutsch 803 de Franz Schubert foi escrito em 1824, em resposta à encomenda de um aristocrata de Viena que tocava clarinete, o que explica que este instrumento sobressaia do conjunto em inúmeras ocasiões. Acontece, porém, que o mesmo se verifica a respeito do fagote, da trompa ou de cada uma das cordas intervenientes. Resulta daqui uma composição que desafia cada um dos intérpretes, sem excepção, e também quem escuta. É quase uma hora de música que passa ao ritmo de uma história que se conta, ou de uma conversa que se tem. É música em estado puro: ora inquieta, ora serena, por vezes exaltante, outras cordata e até mesmo elegante, a discorrer cristalina, cuidada por alguém a quem parece nunca terem faltado ideias.
