Synopsis Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah, or The Epic of the Bani Hilal, is a legendary Arab saga, passed down orally since the 14th century. Often called the "Arab Iliad," it has crossed the centuries but today risks disappearing, preserved only by a handful of poets in Egypt. Khashabi Theatre presents the migration of the Bani Hilal tribe from Najd, in the Arabian Peninsula, to Tunisia. The show follows the extraordinary life of Abu Zaid al-Hilali, a boy exiled because of the colour of his skin, who becomes one of the most famous legends of the Arabs. Bashar Murkus rewrote the text based on documentation and rare recordings of the ancestral poets who sang the saga. The words merge with the aesthetics of Palestinian folklore and Arab performance styles. The staging revives ancient theatrical techniques and imagines how they might have evolved free from the influence of Western conventions and European colonialism. On stage, young performers use songs, dance, shadow theatre and puppets to create a show full of music, imagery and poetry. Sinopse Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah, ou A Epopeia dos Bani Hilal, é uma lendária saga árabe, transmitida oralmente desde o século XIV. Frequentemente apelidada de "Ilíada árabe”, atravessou os séculos, mas hoje corre o risco de desaparecer, preservada apenas por um punhado de poetas do Egito. O Teatro Khashabi apresenta a migração da tribo Bani Hilal de Najd, na Península Arábica, para a Tunísia. O espetáculo acompanha a vida extraordinária de Abu Zaid al-Hilali, um rapaz exilado devido à cor da sua pele, que se torna uma das lendas mais famosas dos árabes. Bashar Murkus reescreveu o texto com base em documentação e gravações raras dos poetas ancestrais que cantavam a saga. As palavras fundem-se com a estética do folclore palestiniano e estilos de interpretação árabes. A encenação recupera técnicas teatrais antigas e imagina como estas poderiam ter evoluído livres da influência das convenções ocidentais e do colonialismo europeu. No palco, jovens intérpretes utilizam canções, dança, teatro de sombras e marionetas para criar um espetáculo repleto de música, imagens e poesia.
