Music waiting to happen. It is something that every now and then springs up out there on the borders between pop and experimental rock. There are moments that made history and that are remembered even for the way they left their mark within a context that was, in itself, already quite generous. Think of This Heat tucked away there in post-punk, and of how what they did was far more than that; or Broadcast, who in the 1990s infiltrated Warp's promise of a future but were, after all, looking too much to a past — a British tradition of making electronic music that only began to be genuinely understood, worldwide, almost twenty years later. Curbside Lear are not here to be quite so revolutionary, but they drink from the same well. Music waiting to happen. With melodies that stay. A present that marks the future. A duo made up of Magdalena McLean (caroline) and Annabelle Mödlinger (DJ and host of Roadkill Ikebana on NTS), Curbside Lambsear is a beautiful manual of music happening and about to happen. Their principles come from folk, in the search for a melodic sensibility that is then rounded off with loops that create simple textures and fill in the spaces of a music built out of fragments. The voice crosses paths with various memories, and at times Trish Keenan comes to mind — for the fit, less for the tone. They are also in line with their contemporaries Tara Clerkin Trio. The song that introduced them to the world, Man The Door, is in line with the Bristol/London trio and its search for a new meaning of music that crosses paths and finds another name that isn't trip hop. That is what this sounds like: something making its way towards a future we will remember in a few years' time. Music waiting to happen, happening now. AS.

Música por acontecer. É algo que volta e meia surge por aí nas fronteiras da pop com o rock experimental. Há momentos que marcaram a história e que são lembrados até pela forma como marcaram dentro de um contexto que já era, em si, bastante generoso. Pense-se nos This Heat enfiados ali no pós-punk e de como o que fizeram foi muito mais do que isso; ou os Broadcast, que nos 1990s infiltravam-se na promessa de futuro da Warp mas, afinal, olhavam demais para uma passado de uma tradição britânica de fazer electrónica que só começou a ser genuinamente entendida, de forma global, quase vinte anos depois. Curbside Lear não estão aqui para ser tão revolucionários, mas bebem do mesmo sítio. Música por acontecer. Com melodias que ficam. Um presente que marca o futuro. Duo composto por Magdalena McLean (caroline) e Annabelle Mödlinger (DJ e apresentadora de Roadkill Ikebana na NTS), as Curbside Lambsear é um belíssimo manual de música a acontecer e por acontecer. Os princípios vêm do folk, na procura da construção de uma sensibilidade melódica que depois se completa com loops que criam texturas simples e completam os espaços de uma música que se constrói à custa de fragmentos. A voz cruza caminhos com várias memórias e por vezes Trish Keenan vem à memória, pelo encaixe, menos pelo tom. Também estão em linha com os contemporâneos Tara Clerkin Trio. O tema que as introduziu ao mundo, Man The Door , está em linha com o trio de Bristol/Londres e com a sua procura de um novo sentido de música que cruza caminhos e que encontre um outro nome que não seja trip hop.
