In partnership with Mondo Negro, and ahead of the arrival of Powerplant, ZDB treads paths adjacent to metal/punk with the well-timed appearance of Poison Ruïn. Without any vokills or tremolo picking to be heard, a black metal aura hovers over the music of the Pennsylvania quartet, one that lets itself be haunted by the spectre of Venom as much as it recognises the D-beat sway that Darkthrone took up from The Cult Is Alive onwards. Tangentially, there is also a lyrical obsession with medieval times, an original foray into fanciful social critique that juxtaposes the feudalism of the Dark Ages with today's labour hardships, but in its capacity to bring audiences together, it can be called, with all that this implies, a Punk band. Direct, memorable yet carrying a whole wealth of ideas that both draw them close to Deathrock and accept atmospheres transplanted from Dungeon Synth, thoroughly rocky riffing, atmospheric pieces for soaring guitars and distant vocals, post-punk swerves and a voice reclaiming the full-lunged choruses of Oi! and the hummable disgust of '77 punk. All in remarkable balance, the grime of the guitars at the exact point of fusion with the clarity of the songs, making the best use of the impetus of a label as imposing as Relapse to maximise the nerve, hypnosis and sharpness of their sound. Sem quaisquer vokills ou tremolo picking que se oiçam, paira sobre a música do quarteto originário da Pennsylvania uma aura black metal que tanto se deixa assombrar pelo espectro de Venom como reconhece o balanço D-beat que acertou passou a Darkthrone a partir de The Cult Is Alive. Tangencialmente, há também uma obsessão lírica com tempos medievais, numa investida original de crítica social fantasiosa que justapõe o feudalismo da Idade das Trevas às agruras laborais de hoje, mas na sua capacidade aglutinadora de públicos, pode-se chamar, com tudo o que isso implica, de uma banda de Punk. Directa, memorável mas a carregar todo um manancial de ideias que tanto os aproxima do Deathrock, como aceita atmosferas transplantadas da Dungeon Synth, riffagem bem roqueira, temas atmosféricos para guitarras planantes e voz distante, guinadas post-punk e uma voz a reclamar os coros a plenos pulmões do Oi! e o asco cantarolável do punk em 77. Tudo num equilíbrio notável, a sujeira das guitarras num ponto exacto de fusão com a clareza das canções, a aproveitarem da melhor forma o impulso de uma editora tão imponente como a Relapse para maximizar o nervo, hipnose e acutilância do seu som.
