Synopsis In this play, Ali Chahrour brings us closer to the lives of migrant domestic workers in Lebanon, long subject to a repressive labour system, now exposed to even greater vulnerability due to war. On stage, Zena Moussa, Tenei Ahmad and Rania Jamal are performers and narrators of their own experiences, sharing stories marked by exploitation, violence and survival. Between dance, song and word, they trace paths in a nearly bare space, where light oscillates, opening zones of clarity and shadow. The live music that accompanies them becomes a common territory: a shattered lullaby echoing the crisis of a country and the distant call of the sea. Like Contado pela minha mãe, presented by the Alkantara Festival at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in 2021, When I Saw the Sea traverses love and absence, motherhood and exile, ritual and war, giving shape to what persists amidst loss and devastation. Sinopse Nesta peça, Ali Chahrour aproxima-nos das vidas de trabalhadoras domésticas migrantes no Líbano, há muito sujeitas a um sistema laboral repressivo, hoje expostas a uma vulnerabilidade ainda maior devido à guerra. Em palco, Zena Moussa, Tenei Ahmad e Rania Jamal são performers e contadoras das suas próprias experiências e partilham histórias atravessadas por exploração, violência e sobrevivência. Entre dança, canto e palavra, traçam percursos num espaço quase despido, onde a luz oscila, abrindo zonas de claridade e sombra. A música ao vivo que as acompanha torna-se um território comum: uma canção de embalar estilhaçada, onde ecoam a crise de um país e o chamamento distante do mar. À semelhança de Contado pela minha mãe, apresentado pelo Alkantara Festival no Teatro Nacional D. Maria II em 2021, Quando vi o mar atravessa o amor e a ausência, a maternidade e o exílio, o ritual e a guerra, dando forma àquilo que persiste no meio da perda e da devastação.
