Synopsis Accessibility: Performance with Portuguese Sign Language interpretation on 14 March at 17h. On the day the newsroom of a small independent investigative journalism project says goodbye to what was its first home, Carolina returns after a long absence. Her return confronts her with the new paradigm of the newspaper and lifts the veil on several delicate pending matters. A play about press freedom and fundamental values, within a group where professional bonds are intertwined with intimate relationships of love and friendship, and where each person deals, in their own way, with a recent trauma that affected them all. The play explores complex moral and ethical dilemmas, the tension between ideals and survival, and the personal cost of seeking the truth in a system that penalizes dissent. Fumo is a reflection on loyalty, friendship and the compromises demanded when confronting injustice. The text was written within the international project Writing on New Realities, based on artistic residencies in Portugal and Turkey. It was published in a Turkish edition by Habitus Kitap (2025). No dia em que a redação de um pequeno projeto de jornalismo de investigação independente se despede daquela que foi a sua primeira casa, Carolina regressa, após uma longa ausência. O seu regresso vai confrontá-la com o novo paradigma do jornal e levantar o véu sobre vários e delicados assuntos pendentes. Uma peça sobre liberdade de imprensa e valores fundamentais, no seio de um grupo em que os laços profissionais se confundem com íntimas relações de amor e amizade e em que cada um lida, à sua maneira, com um trauma recente que os atingiu a todos. A peça explora dilemas morais e éticos complexos, a tensão entre ideais e sobrevivência e o custo pessoal da procura da verdade num sistema que penaliza a dissidência. Fumo é uma reflexão sobre a lealdade, a amizade e os compromissos exigidos quando se confronta a injustiça.
