Oliveira Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie Alex Gibney • 2026 • USA • 108' • DCP Portuguese premiere Ages 16 and over Gibney recounts Salman Rushdie's physical and emotional recovery after the 2022 attack, when an assailant armed with a knife stabbed him, 33 years after Iran issued a fatwa over The Satanic Verses and offered a reward for his head. Drawing on unseen footage of his recovery and return to everyday life, and on excerpts from Rushdie's works, the film creates a dreamlike and poetic setting that mirrors the way he sees writing as his own 'knife', a tool to strike back, reclaim his story and answer violence with imagination and art.
