Cinema Nimas presents the cycle The Mexican Buñuel with a programme showing unique and brilliant works by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. After the scandal of L’Âge d’or (1930), which immediately brought him a mythical reputation, and an invitation to work in the USA, where he would later go into exile following Franco’s victory in the Spanish Civil War, ultimately completing none of his projects there, Luis Buñuel ended up in Mexico in 1946, at the invitation of producer Oscar Dancigers, thus beginning the so-called “Mexican period”, which we now revisit, with 3 of the films in new 4K restored copies. It was 9 years of great productivity, and many critics maintain that this was Buñuel’s great era. The director himself defended several of these films as being among the best he made. Medeia Filmes.
