Cinema Nimas Lisbon

A film cycle in which IFILNOVA researchers introduce and comment on great films — from David Lynch's Lost Highway to Bergman's Winter Light — understood as forms of reflective thought, running from September to December.

All great films are philosophical — not because cinema is about applying or illustrating concepts from philosophy, but rather because cinema is itself a specific form of reflective thought. This is the premise of this cycle, made up of films chosen and commented on by researchers and lecturers from the Institute of Philosophy of NOVA (IFILNOVA) and from the Master's programmes at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in Philosophy of Art and Aesthetics and in Artistic Studies: Maria João Mayer Branco, João Pedro Cachopo, Nélio Conceição, João Constâncio, Bartholomew Ryan, Paolo Stellino. More information here. Programme: 23 September: 18h. Lost Highway, by David Lynch. Commentary by João Pedro Cachopo. 16 October. The Mirror, by Andrei Tarkovsky. Commentary by Bartholomew Ryan. 18 November. Ikiru, by Akira Kurosawa. Commentary by João Constâncio. 3 December. Winter Light, by Ingmar Bergman. Commentary by Paolo Stellino. Philosophy cycle.
