MACAM presents 'Other Spaces', a selection of contemporary photography from the Américo Marques Collection curated by Adelaide Ginga, bringing together names such as Andreas Gursky, Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin and Helena Almeida, from the late 1950s to the present day.
Contemporary photography takes centre stage in the new exhibition proposal of MACAM, the Armando Martins Museum of Contemporary Art. Other Spaces, Photography in the Américo Marques Collection (Part I) reveals to the public a selection of works belonging to one of the most relevant private Portuguese collections, built over several decades by collector Américo Marques. Curated by Adelaide Ginga, the exhibition brings together unmissable names of international photography, such as Andreas Gursky, Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, Helmut Newton, Candida Höfer, Thomas Ruff, Wolfgang Tillmans and Helena Almeida, among many others. Covering works produced from the late 1950s to the present day, the show offers a broad perspective on the aesthetic, conceptual and thematic diversity that characterises contemporary photography. More than a chronological journey, Other Spaces proposes a dialogue between authors, languages and sensibilities, exploring photography as a space for the construction of meaning and critical reflection on the world. Integrated into MACAM's special programming dedicated to collecting and private collections, the exhibition is also a rare opportunity to discover the eye of a collector whose passion for photography, begun in the 1990s, gave rise to a reference collection in the national art scene. ARV. Wednesday to Monday, from 10h to 19h. Between 19 June and 6 October: Wednesday to Monday, from 10h to 20h. Technical sheet: Curated by Adelaide Ginga.
