Andreas Goldstein juxtaposes personal memories with public and television images from East and West Germany, revealing the contradictions of history. For Goldstein, East Germany is his birthplace, an attempt at utopia, the lost paradise he keeps rediscovering in his films (Adam & Evelyn, The Communist), which form a body of work proposing a singular and complex approach to the history of the GDR.
