Rocío Bueno Other
Renascence, by Rocío Bueno, is a photographic project paying tribute to poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, weaving a dialogue between her poetic work, her photographic archive and new images, with the collaboration of eight photographers, on view Tuesday to Sunday, from 15h to 19h.
Full details Renascence is a photographic project that pays tribute to the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, one of the most influential figures of 20th-century poetry, a spokesperson for her generation in the struggle for gender equality, a representative of the New Woman of the 1920s and the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1923. Like so many women artists, her legacy fell into oblivion, and this work is born as an act of recovery to bring her figure into the present. This project proposes a round trip between past and present, reality and fiction, in which the poet becomes a mirror from which to explore identity itself. Through a contemporary gaze, a dialogue is established between her poetic work, her photographic archive and new images generated from both, in an exercise of resonance that says as much about Millay as about today's woman: free, strong, transgressive, but also vulnerable and sensitive. The narrative is built in an imagined space where two intertwined worlds converge. Themes such as childhood, the relationship with the mother, artistic creation, bohemian life, independence, genderless love, the body, motherhood, pain, nature and death articulate the narrative. The project has a polyphonic character and includes the collaboration of eight photographers who contribute self-portraits inspired by various poems by Millay.
In Renascence, the poetic work functions as a silent warp that sustains the visual narrative, woven from evocation, fragmentation and the secrecy shared between image and word. The photographs combine contemporary portraits, natural spaces and altered archive images, reinterpreted through elements inspired by nature and by the symbolism of her red hair, the project's visual guide. Renascence is thus an invitation to inhabit fictional realities that may inspire a path of one's own.
