Route through Marquês de Pombal Roundabout to discover the history of Portuguese pavement, a living heritage that reflects the relationship between Lisbon, light and the ground.

Full details

Brief Introduction A major symbol of Lisbon's and national identity, the Portuguese pavement unites tradition, technique and urban aesthetics in a stroke that beautifies and makes the city unique. Synopsis More than a simple covering, it is a living heritage that reflects human ingenuity and the intimate relationship between Lisbon, light and its ground. Today, this art faces challenges that threaten its continuity. Preserving it requires recognizing and valuing the master pavers, true guardians of knowledge passed down from generation to generation. On this route, starting at the Marquês de Pombal Roundabout, as we look at what we step on, we discover that every stone tells a story. From the post-earthquake reconstruction to the modernity of the great avenues, the pavement becomes a narrative: a mosaic of experiences, memories and eras that, together, tell the very history of the city.
