Where did blackface begin? When does it end? Blackface is a solo show written and directed by Marco Mendonça, a musical conference between stand-up and fantasy, satire and physical theatre, burlesque and documentary. Starting from personal experiences and the history of blackface as a racist theatrical practice, from its roots in the USA to Portuguese cases, Mendonça seeks the limits of what can or cannot be represented on stage. After producing his second creation, Reparations Baby!, premiered in 2025, D. Maria II now hosts the return to the stage of his first show as a creator. Talk with artists on May 30. Accessibility session with Portuguese Sign Language interpretation and audio description on May 30.
