Commented concert by Susana Henriques. Lisbon Music Academy. Between Samurai and Violins proposes a musical journey inspired by the life and thought of Shinichi Suzuki, a major figure in 20th-century music pedagogy. Born into a lineage of samurai and a member of the family that owned the world's largest instrument factory, his path was marked by a late discovery of the violin, by his time in Berlin, by his friendship with Einstein and by the formulation of the 'mother tongue' principle. This concert celebrates a legacy that combines discipline, listening and affection, revealing music as a language of formation, sharing and growth. Between tradition and innovation, this concert promotes an immersive experience, capable of transforming performers and audiences on both sides of the stage.

In 2019, Casa das Histórias Paula Rego began a new cycle of exhibitions in the museum's room zero with the aim of presenting the work of artists whose paths have crossed, in one way or another, with Paula Rego. The idea of dedicating an exhibition to Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos (1931, 2008) had long been considered, but it was with the recent acquisition by Fundação D. Luís I of a large part of his printed work that its realization became pertinent within the scope of the commemorations of 'Cascais Capital Europeia da Democracia 2026'. The relationship of friendship and mutual admiration between the two artists, which lasted for several decades, was consolidated during the periods they lived in the British capital. In 1956, Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos began his studies in Printmaking with Anthony Gross at the prestigious art school Slade School of Fine Art and met Paula Rego, who was in her final year of the Painting course at the same school. During the 1960s, already as a teacher at the Slade, Bartolomeu Cid would play a decisive role in Rego's learning of printmaking techniques. Ideologically, they were also very close in the way they denounced the ideology of dictatorship and repression through their art. The selection of works for this exhibition had as its starting point these complicities/coexistences that are reflected in the artistic practices of both. More information: Fundação D. Em 2019 a Casa das Histórias Paula Rego iniciou um novo ciclo de exposições na sala zero do Museu com o objetivo de apresentar a obra de artistas cujas trajetórias se tenham cruzado, de uma forma ou de outra, com Paula Rego. A ideia de dedicar uma exposição a Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos (1931, 2008) surgiu há muito, mas foi com a recente aquisição pela Fundação D. Luís I de grande parte da sua obra gravada que a sua concretização se tornou pertinente no âmbito das comemorações de “Cascais Capital Europeia da Democracia 2026”. A relação de amizade e de admiração mútua entre os dois artistas, que perdurou várias décadas, consolidou-se durante os períodos em que viveram na capital britânica. Em 1956, Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos inicia os seus estudos de Gravura com Anthony Gross na prestigiada escola de arte Slade School of Fine Art e conhece Paula Rego, que se encontra no último ano do curso de Pintura na mesma escola. Durante a década de 1960, já enquanto docente da Slade, Bartolomeu Cid terá um papel determinante na aprendizagem das técnicas da gravura por parte de Rego. Ideologicamente estavam também muito próximos no modo como denunciaram a ideologia da ditadura e a repressão através da sua arte. A seleção de obras para esta exposição teve como ponto de partida estas cumplicidades/coexistências que se refletem nas práticas artísticas de ambos. Mais informações: Fundação D.
