Brief Introduction «What do we want from art - and what does art want from us?» A series of 3 lectures by Joshua Decter in partnership with AIR 351 Some Limits of Reason: Can Art be Transgressive? This is the title of an exhibition of painting and sculpture by Sarmento, presented at the Sean Kelly Gallery in New York in 2005. The exhibition explored various notions of transgression, dialoguing with Foucault's reflections on Bataille's concept of transgression. We can consider Sarmento's synthesis of these philosophical concepts as a starting point to think whether, and in what way, art can be transgressive in current (and future) circumstances, as well as to reflect on what «transgression» means in the 21st century.
