Brief Introduction The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini, is one of the most popular and entertaining operas of all time and is back on Portuguese stages. Synopsis One of the most celebrated operas of all time, The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini is a work where humour, music and virtuosity meet in a comedy of irresistible rhythm. In Seville, the young Count Almaviva is determined to win over Rosina, a clever and sharp-witted young woman kept under the strict watch of her guardian, Dr. Bartolo. To achieve his goal, the Count relies on the help of Figaro, the city's ingenious barber, whose energy and intelligence will be decisive in overcoming every obstacle. Between disguises, misunderstandings and outlandish schemes, Rossini builds a vibrant story of love and freedom. Its famous arias, brilliant ensembles and demanding vocal writing make this work one of the highest expressions of Italian opera buffa. With a libretto by Cesare Sterbini, based on the comedy by Pierre-Augustin de Beaumarchais, The Barber of Seville premiered in Rome in 1816, quickly becoming one of the greatest successes of the operatic repertoire. More than two centuries later, it still surprises, amuses and delights audiences of all ages. In November 2026, this masterpiece arrives in Portugal for three unmissable performances: on 6 November at the Salão Preto e Prata of the Casino Estoril; on 7 November at the Centro de Artes de Águeda; and on 8 November at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon.
