Alessandro Sciarroni presents Save the Last Dance for Me, an intimate duet performed by Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini around the Polka Chinata, an early 20th-century Bolognese courtship dance reconstructed from archive images and now on the verge of disappearing.

Full details

Synopsis In Save the Last Dance for Me, Alessandro Sciarroni creates a rare and engaging encounter with the Polka Chinata, a Bolognese courtship dance from the early 20th century. Performed by Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini, Save the Last Dance for Me is an intimate duet that unfolds in a continuous spiral of tension and trust: bodies intertwined, spinning, descending and rising, in a demanding, almost acrobatic choreography. Once danced exclusively by men, the Polka Chinata survives today thanks to the meticulous work of Giancarlo Stagni, who reconstructed it from archive images. When Sciarroni discovered it in 2018, only five practitioners remained. Between performance and act of preservation, Save the Last Dance for Me is at once celebration and reunion, an invitation to witness, share and keep alive a tradition on the verge of disappearing. // Alessandro Sciarroni is an Italian artist working in the field of performing arts, with several years of experience in the visual arts and theatrical research. His work starts from a conceptual matrix close to Duchamp, using a theatrical framework, and has been presented in festivals, museums and unconventional spaces across Europe, South America, North America and Asia. In his creations, he involves professionals from different disciplines and draws on techniques and experiences from dance, as well as from circus or sport. His work seeks to reveal the obsessions, fears and fragilities of the act of performing, through the repetition of a practice pushed to the limits of the performers' physical endurance, exploring another dimension of time and fostering an empathetic relationship between audience and performers. In 2019, he was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Dance by the Venice Biennale. Alessandro Sciarroni is an associated artist of MARCHE TEATRO. Show original (Portuguese)

Sinopse Em Save the Last Dance for Me , Alessandro Sciarroni cria um encontro raro e envolvente com a Polka Chinata , uma dança de cortejo bolonhesa do início do século XX. Alessandro Sciarroni é artista associado do MARCHE TEATRO.
