Brief Introduction Long before stories were written down, they were shared through voice, music, gesture and movement. In India, these storytellers were known as Kathakars, itinerant artists who brought ancient myths, epic adventures and timeless tales to life through rhythm, expression and dance. The show Katha: Stories in Motion revives this extraordinary tradition, inviting audiences to discover a world where every gesture has meaning, every rhythm becomes a conversation and every movement reveals a story. Co-produced by Isha Artes (Indian Culture in the European Body) and the Oriente Foundation, with the support of the Embassy of India in Lisbon, this original production explores the narrative essence of Kathak through choreography inspired by Indian mythology, poetry and spiritual traditions. Expressive gesture (abhinaya), intricate rhythmic footwork and evocative music come together to create a show in which stories unfold beyond words, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the richness of the Indian cultural imagination. Katha brings together mythology, poetry, devotion and human emotion in a show that speaks to audiences of all cultures. Katha was conceived and directed by Lajja Sambhavnath, founder and president of Isha Artes and a pioneer of Kathak in Portugal. Founder of the first Kathak school in Portugal, Lajja has played a key role in promoting Indian classical dance over the past decade through performances, educational work and cross-cultural artistic collaborations. On stage, Katha is performed by Lajja Sambhavnath and her ensemble of dancers. Revealing one of India's oldest storytelling traditions, Katha invites audiences to discover how, long before cinema and theatre, stories could be seen, heard and felt through the timeless language of dance. Breve Introdução Muito antes de as histórias serem escritas, eram partilhadas através da voz, da música, do gesto e do movimento. Na Índia, estes contadores de histórias eram conhecidos como Kathakars , artistas itinerantes que davam vida a mitos ancestrais, aventuras épicas e contos intemporais através do ritmo, da expressão e da dança. O espectáculo Katha: Histórias em Movimento , retoma esta extraordinária tradição, convidando o público a descobrir um mundo onde cada gesto tem significado, cada ritmo se torna uma conversa e cada movimento revela uma história. Co-produzido pela Isha Artes (Cultura Indiana no Corpo Europeu) e pela Fundação Oriente, com o apoio da Embaixada da Índia em Lisboa, esta produção original explora a essência narrativa do Kathak através de coreografias inspiradas na mitologia, poesia e tradições espirituais indianas. O gesto expressivo ( abhinaya ), o intricado trabalho rítmico de pés e a música evocativa unem-se para criar um espectáculo em que as histórias se desenrolam para além da palavra, convidando o público a mergulhar na riqueza do imaginário cultural indiano. Revelando uma das tradições de storytelling mais antigas da Índia, Katha convida a descobrir como, muito antes do cinema e do teatro, as histórias podiam ser vistas, ouvidas e sentidas , através da linguagem intemporal da dança.
