Synopsis “Japanese Music for Piano” marks the release of António Luís Silva's first solo album, a singular project on the international piano scene: it is one of the first records entirely devoted to Japanese music for piano ever recorded by a Western performer. The recital presents a sound journey that highlights both the parallels and the aesthetic frontiers between Japanese music and the Western pianistic tradition. If, on the one hand, Japanese writing absorbs European influences, from impressionism to the expanded harmony of the 20th century, on the other, it preserves deeply distinctive elements: the relationship with silence, spatiality, the contained gesture and a poetics of contemplation that distinguishes its musical identity. The programme brings together works by four fundamental composers of Japanese piano writing: Karen Tanaka, Saburo Takata, Minako Tokuyama and Hisatada Otaka. Each piece reveals a distinct facet of this aesthetic, now luminous and textural, now meditative and ritualised, offering the audience a rare opportunity to hear repertoire still little known outside Japan. This concert at Fundação Oriente marks the beginning of the album's international circulation and celebrates the artistic dialogue between Portugal and Japan, through a piano that becomes a bridge, a mirror and a shared territory. Sinopse “Japanese Music for Piano” marca o lançamento do primeiro álbum a solo de António Luís Silva, um projeto singular no panorama pianístico internacional: trata-se de um dos primeiros discos inteiramente dedicados à música japonesa para piano alguma vez gravados por um intérprete ocidental. O recital apresenta um percurso sonoro que evidencia tanto os paralelismos como as fronteiras estéticas entre a música japonesa e a tradição pianística ocidental. Se, por um lado, a escrita japonesa absorve influências europeias , do impressionismo à harmonia expandida do século XX , por outro, preserva elementos profundamente próprios: a relação com o silêncio, a espacialidade, o gesto contido e uma poética de contemplação que distingue a sua identidade musical. O programa reúne obras de quatro compositores fundamentais da criação pianística japonesa: Karen Tanaka, Saburo Takata, Minako Tokuyama e Hisatada Otaka. Cada peça revela uma faceta distinta desta estética , ora luminosa e textural, ora meditativa e ritualizada , oferecendo ao público uma oportunidade rara de escutar repertório ainda pouco divulgado fora do Japão.
