Brief Introduction MOTTAINAI: A CONCEPT FOR SUSTAINABILITY *With CATARINA PRETO Schedule: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Target Audience: Ages 12 and up Maximum participants: 18 Minimum participants: 5 which, after their initial use, we tend to consider useless. However, when carefully selected and properly prepared, they can become raw material for creating new objects, capable of assuming different functions. The idea of not wasting leads us to the Japanese concept Mottainai, which reminds us that nothing should be discarded without consideration, much less disrespected. According to this perspective rooted in Buddhist and Shinto thought, all things possess kami, a kind of spirit or essence, and it is up to us to care for them and pay them due homage, even when they no longer fulfill their initial function. Taking as a starting point some examples from the exhibition Japan: Festivals and Rituals, in this workshop we propose to: 1. Facilitate participants' encounter with a way of thinking and living based on sustainability principles - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect; Demonstrate, in a practical way, how we can reuse materials; Teach how to build a foldable archive, without sewing, based on folds and fittings. This archive will include lined front and back covers, as well as a closure sleeve. At the end, each participant will take home a guide with the measurements and all the necessary steps for construction. In case of cancellation: A full refund of the registration fee will be made if cancellation is communicated up to 8 business days before the activity. After that date, a refund can only be considered if the spot is filled or in situations of illness, accident, or other duly proven force majeure. If the activity does not take place due to lack of participants or for another reason, the registration fee will be fully refunded. For more information contact Catarina Preto Graduated in Painting with professional training in photography, she works as an illustrator and cultural mediator, but likes to call herself a creative, who from all the materials that come to her, all that she can cut and glue, make her what she is, someone who likes to take one thing and transform it into something else. Her relationship with paper changed forever with a Pop Up training, models of paper folds that, by tradition, are inside a book and open when we want. But in what other contexts would these folds work? And with this question and many mistakes, she built mechanisms with pulleys and parts that open, like in books, but in a different way. The workshop with children has been the ideal place where paper experimentation happens in a freer and more honest way. It is through mediation that she brings these ways of doing to others, and in sharing, she brings new perspectives that merge into her personal exploration. Prices Entry - 20€

No entanto, quando cuidadosamente selecionadas e devidamente preparadas, podem transformar-se em matéria-prima para a criação de novos objetos, capazes de assumir diferentes funções. A ideia de não desperdiçar conduz-nos ao conceito japonês Mottainai , que nos lembra que nada deve ser descartado sem consideração , e muito menos desrespeitado. Segundo esta perspetiva com raízes no pensamento budista e xintoísta, todas as coisas possuem kami , uma espécie de espírito ou essência, e cabe-nos a nós cuidar delas e prestar-lhes a devida homenagem, mesmo quando já não cumprem a sua função inicial. Tomando como ponto de partida alguns exemplos da exposição Japão: Festas e Rituais , nesta oficina, propomo-nos a: 1. Facilitar o encontro dos participantes com uma forma de pensar e viver assente em princípios de sustentabilidade - Reduzir, Reutilizar, Reciclar e Respeitar; Demonstrar, de forma prática, como podemos reaproveitar materiais; Ensinar a construir um arquivo desdobrável, sem recurso a costuras, baseado em dobragens e encaixes. Este arquivo incluirá capa e contracapa forradas, bem como uma manga de fecho. No final, cada participante levará consigo um guia com as medidas e todos os passos necessários para a construção. Em caso de desistência: Haverá lugar ao reembolso do valor total da inscrição quando a desistência for comunicada até 8 dias úteis antes da actividade. Depois dessa data, o reembolso só poderá ser considerado se o lugar for preenchido ou em situações de doença, acidente, ou outros imponderáveis de força maior, devidamente comprovados. A sua relação com o papel mudou para sempre, com uma formação de Pop Up, modelos de dobragens em papel que, por tradição, estão dentro de um livro e que abrem quando queremos. Mas em que outros contextos estas dobragens funcionariam?” E com esta pergunta e com muitos erros, construiu mecanismos com roldanas e partes que abrem, como nos livros, mas de uma forma diferente. O atelier com crianças, tem sido o lugar por excelência, onde a experimentação do papel acontece, de uma forma mais livre e honesta.
