A programme devoted to the sound and devotional universe of Christ's Passion as imagined in the 16th-century Portuguese Royal Chapel, centred on the Chyrios das Trevas (c. 1500), the oldest polyphonic work of Portuguese origin, in dialogue with Iberian motets, performed in dimmed light evoking the Tenebrae liturgy of the Easter Triduum.

Full details

Synopsis This programme proposes a listening of the sound and devotional universe of the Passion of Christ, as we can imagine it in the context of the Portuguese Royal Chapel of the 16th century: at the centre, the Chyrios das Trevas, the oldest polyphonic work with an unequivocal origin in the Portuguese Royal Chapel (c. 1500), preserved as an appendix to a Cerimonial da Capela Real once belonging to Infanta D. Maria and today kept in the National Library of Naples. In dialogue with this central work, Iberian motets will be heard, opening a complementary gaze on the circulation of repertoires through manuscript sources, such as CIC 60 of the National Library of Lisbon. The concert takes place in an atmosphere of reduced lighting that evokes the liturgy of darkness of the Easter Triduum. Show original (Portuguese)
