The Scottish band The Twilight Sad, one of the most intense and emotional bands of modern post-punk, return to Portugal for two highly anticipated concerts in November: on the 14th at Hard Club (Porto) and on the 15th at LAV, Lisboa ao Vivo. Described by Robert Smith of The Cure as a band that "in a better world would play to many more people", The Twilight Sad have won a devoted audience over the last decade through the cathartic force of their performances and the disarming honesty of their songs. Originating from Kilsyth, Scotland, the creative core formed by James Graham (vocals) and Andy MacFarlane (guitar and production) has built a singular discography, five studio albums, ranging from the melancholic lyricism of the acclaimed Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters (2007) to the emotional climax of IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME (2019). The latter, released by Rock Action Records, Mogwai's label, consolidated the group as one of the most expressive British formations of today, mixing dense guitars, hypnotic synthesizers and rare emotional weight. On stage, The Twilight Sad transforms pain into communion. Performances are described by critics as experiences of collective exorcism, intense sound layers, industrial beats and Graham's vulnerable voice, sometimes a repressed scream, sometimes a whisper of relief. As Teoria Cultural wrote, "The Twilight Sad transforms pain into sound architecture, sadness into catharsis". With influences ranging from The Cure to The Smiths, Joy Division and Mogwai, the band has been winning over new audiences, both through their overwhelming concerts and their complicity with renowned artists, even opening several tours for The Cure themselves. The Twilight Sad now return to Portugal for two unmissable concerts, revisiting songs from their entire career and promising another intense celebration of the melancholy that unites band and fans.
