CAMB - Centro de Arte Manuel de Brito Lisbon

The CAMB – Centro de Arte Manuel de Brito presents Menez in the Manuel de Brito Collection, an exhibition tracing the career of the self-taught Portuguese painter (1926–1995) from her early abstraction to intimate late interiors, on view until 2 January, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 7pm.

The CAMB, Manuel de Brito Art Centre, presents Menez in the Manuel de Brito Collection, an exhibition dedicated to one of the most singular Portuguese artists of the 20th century. Self-taught, Menez (1926, 1995) began painting at the age of 26, developing a deeply personal language, free from schools and conventions. She refused to give titles to her works and believed that painting should communicate by itself, without the need for explanations. The exhibition goes through different moments of her artistic production, from the abstraction of the early years to the turn towards figuration, marked by the loss of her two eldest children and by the representation of biblical themes and the human condition. In the last years of her life, the artist devoted herself to painting luminous interiors, studios, female figures, books and gardens, revealing a universe of great sensitivity and intimacy. On display at the CAMB until 2 January next year, the exhibition invites us to rediscover the work of an unavoidable artist of Portuguese art. ARV. Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 1pm/2pm to 7pm. painting.
