Cinema Fernando Lopes presents a new retrospective dedicated to one of the great authors of cinema. About Life and Other Tragedies: The Essential Roy Andersson Retrospective proposes a journey through more than fifty years of the work of Swedish director Roy Andersson, including the three films that make up the celebrated Living Trilogy, his first two films and five essential short films. Roy Andersson built an absolutely unique cinematic universe, based on a tableau aesthetic of rigorously composed fixed shots, characters with pale faces, everyday spaces transformed into strange stages, and humour as dry as it is deeply human. Between the comic and the tragic, the banal and the philosophical, he made the human condition — with its small miseries, solitudes, desires, failures and moments of unexpected tenderness — the stuff of a cinema without equal.
