MUDE's new long-term exhibition, occupying floors 3 and 4 of the museum, re-reads the history of design through chronologically arranged national and international pieces, asking how and why objects were designed, communicated and consumed in their time.
More than showing the design icons in the MUDE collection, the long-term exhibition opening at the end of October and occupying floors 3 and 4 of the museum aims to re-read the history of design and its discursive heritage, presenting design in context to question how (and why) objects were designed, communicated, perceived and consumed in their time. Organised chronologically, the national and international pieces (product, fashion, graphic, stage, interiors, contemporary jewellery) aim to highlight issues that cut across different periods, so that the present can better understand the urgency of the responsible changes that envision the future. The exhibition design highlights the museum's choice to reuse part of the materials from previous exhibitions and from the renovation works of the MUDE building — after all, more than fostering the debates about the need for change, the aim is for the museum to be an example and a reference in putting them into practice.
