A self-guided visit to the permanent exhibition of the Museu Bordalo Pinheiro in Lisbon, the first museum in Portugal built from scratch for a single artist, holding around 13,200 objects ranging from tiles and ceramics to the humorous drawings of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, creator of the famous Zé Povinho.
Synopsis The permanent exhibition of the Museu Bordalo Pinheiro, in Lisbon. The Museu Bordalo Pinheiro opened to the public in 1916, being the first museum in Portugal to be built from scratch to house the work of a single artist. Its mission is to promote the work of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, a striking artist of the second half of the 19th century, renowned for his genius and humour, and creator of the famous Zé Povinho. Starting from the collection of Cruz Magalhães, the museum's founder, the holdings have been enriched over the last 100 years. The collection comprises around 13,200 objects, ranging from tiles and ceramics to humorous drawing. Come and discover Lisbon's most fun museum!
