Hedda Gabler
Theatre
Friday 2 October · until 4 Oct
The Amateur Theatre Group of Benfica stages Henrik Ibsen's classic, in which Hedda, trapped by social conventions after her marriage to Jørgen Tesman, unleashes a series of tragic events with the arrival of her former lover Ejlert Løvborg.
After her honeymoon with Jørgen Tesman, a promising academic, Hedda struggles with the return to domestic life, which quickly proves monotonous and suffocating. Despite the apparent stability of the marriage, the young woman feels trapped by social conventions and unable to find a purpose for her existence. The arrival of Ejlert Løvborg, Hedda's former lover and Tesman's intellectual rival, disturbs this balance. Rehabilitated from alcoholism and author of a promising work, Løvborg has the support of Thea Elvsted, a woman who abandoned her comfortable life to help him rebuild himself. Driven by jealousy, boredom and the desire to exert control over those around her, Hedda unleashes a series of tragic events… Credits: Grupo de Teatro Amador de Benfica. Text by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Benjamim Falcão.
