Elida Almeida officially presents her album 'SPEDJU' at Lisbon's Coliseu Club, in a concert celebrating motherhood, identity and contemporary Cape Verdean music.

Full details

Synopsis. The already acclaimed Cape Verdean artist Elida Almeida returns to the Lisbon stage for the official presentation of her latest work, “SPEDJU”. On this record, Elida Almeida dives into a deeply intimate and transformative dimension of her life: the experience of motherhood. Conceived during the gestation period of her daughter, the album is born as a space for personal, emotional and artistic reflection, where each song functions as a mirror of the changes experienced by the artist in her body, her mind and her way of looking at the world. Pregnancy brought with it a new awareness of time, vulnerability, strength and the meaning of being a woman. The mirror then ceases to be merely a physical object to become a symbol of recognition and discovery. By observing the real transformations of her body, Elida Almeida also confronts profound inner changes: emotional maturing, the responsibility of motherhood and the ancestral bond between mothers and children. “SPEDJU” translates this constant dialogue between identity and transformation. The album traverses universal emotions of fear, courage, love, doubt, hope and rebirth that go beyond her own individual experience and find an echo in the lives of so many women and mothers in different parts of the world. The work thus becomes a tribute to motherhood as a creative, silent and revolutionary force. Musically, Elida Almeida maintains her contemporary signature rooted in Cape Verdean sounds, but presents a more introspective and sensitive register, without losing the vibrant energy that characterises her career. Her compositions reflect the duality between fragility and power, intimacy and celebration, in an artistic narrative that brings the audience closer to the most human dimension of the singer-songwriter. “SPEDJU” is a testament to transformation. A mirror in which Elida Almeida sees herself as a woman, artist and mother, and in which each person can likewise recognise parts of themselves, their changes, affections and life stories. In the new show, Elida Almeida invites the audience on an intimate and vibrant journey through the multiple reflections of identity, memory, roots and Cape Verdean contemporaneity. “SPEDJU” emerges as an artistic and emotional mirror, in which the singer reveals new sounds, creative maturity and a deep connection between tradition and modernity. ...
