Between Samurai and Violins proposes a musical journey inspired by the life and thought of Shinichi Suzuki, a major figure in 20th-century music pedagogy. Born into a lineage of samurai and a member of the family that owned the world's largest instrument factory, his path was marked by a late discovery of the violin, by his time in Berlin, by his friendship with Einstein and by the formulation of the 'mother tongue' principle. This concert celebrates a legacy that combines discipline, listening and affection, revealing music as a language of formation, sharing and growth. Between tradition and innovation, this concert promotes an immersive experience, capable of transforming performers and audiences on both sides of the stage.

To mark the centenary of John Coltrane's birth, the Flat Earth Society Orchestra performs 'The Coltrane Mutations', deconstructing and reinventing Coltrane classics through its eccentric, experimental orchestral language alongside new compositions touched by the 'Trane virus'.

Full details

Synopsis In 2026, John Coltrane would have turned 100. To mark the centenary of one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz, the Flat Earth Society Orchestra (FES) accepted the invitation from Bozar to dive into Coltrane's musical universe and create a tribute worthy of his work — free, restless and impossible to catalogue. In The Coltrane Mutations, FES approaches Coltrane's legacy from its own territory: an eccentric, unpredictable orchestral universe, deeply rooted in experimentation. His classics are deconstructed, reinvented and traversed by the orchestra's singular language, alongside new compositions contaminated by the so-called 'Trane virus'. Coltrane was a tireless explorer. Throughout his career, he defied conventions, expanded the possibilities of jazz and continually sought new forms of expression. It is precisely that restlessness — the desire to question, search and move into unknown territories — that brings his work close to the identity of the Flat Earth Society Orchestra. The result is much more than a conventional tribute. The Coltrane Mutations is a meeting between two free spirits: that of a musician who radically transformed the language of jazz and that of an orchestra that continues to challenge the boundaries between composition, improvisation, jazz and contemporary music. Intense, spiritual and borderless, Coltrane's music takes on new forms in FES's hands, in a celebration at once respectful and irreverent. A concert where the past is not simply revisited, but set in motion — transformed, expanded and returned to the present. Sinopse Em 2026, John Coltrane faria 100 anos.
