Commented concert by Susana Henriques. Lisbon Music Academy. Between Samurai and Violins proposes a musical journey inspired by the life and thought of Shinichi Suzuki, a major figure in 20th-century music pedagogy. Born into a lineage of samurai and a member of the family that owned the world's largest instrument factory, his path was marked by a late discovery of the violin, by his time in Berlin, by his friendship with Einstein and by the formulation of the 'mother tongue' principle. This concert celebrates a legacy that combines discipline, listening and affection, revealing music as a language of formation, sharing and growth. Between tradition and innovation, this concert promotes an immersive experience, capable of transforming performers and audiences on both sides of the stage.

Inspired by Büchner's Woyzeck, Laissez Faire follows Jorge, a widowed father who, submissively navigating a ruthless hierarchical company, is pushed into an innovative productivity programme — a show by Os Possessos directed by Leonardo Garibaldi.

Full details

Synopsis This show uses strobe lights. Accessibility: Performance with Portuguese Sign Language interpretation on 11 October at 5 pm. "I always wake up earlier than the alarm clock to avoid the traumatic experience of being woken up." Slavoj Žižek (Too Late to Awaken: What Lies Ahead When There Is No Future) LEX is a company that survives in a rigorous hierarchical system, where the strongest — or at least the cleverest — wins, but where everyone is part of the family. They are all employees, but the market is free to do whatever it wants. It is in this company that Jorge, a widowed father, works. Deluded by false hopes of a better future, he submissively accepts all the demands of his superiors. He is pushed into an innovative productivity programme to prove his commitment and his debt to the company. (It will be so worth it!) The effort will be rewarded and hope is the last thing to die. The person dies first and only then hope. (Vai tão valer a pena!)
