Synopsis After three years closed for renovation works, the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II reopens its doors, and it does so with irresistible boldness and irony. The first play to go up on stage will be Macbeth, the same one that was on stage on that fateful night of 2 December 1964, when a powerful fire left the theatre in ruins, fuelling the legends, superstitions and curses that have always surrounded this Shakespeare tragedy. Macbeth returns to the Sala Garrett to defy fate and combine haunting and future, in what will be the inaugural act of a building that resumes its history, and of a national theatre that seeks to assert itself as a navigator of a frontier where memory echoes and what is yet to come can be glimpsed. The historical destructive fire and the ambition that consumes the pair of protagonists intertwine on stage, in a contemporary approach that reflects on memory and rebirth, merging reality and illusion, and echoing the unsettling question: is the theatre truly free of its destiny? Between ashes and new foundations, Macbeth turns the stage into a battlefield where past and future confront each other, making the reopening of the D. Maria II a true act of exorcism and celebration. Sinopse Depois de três anos fechado para obras, o Teatro Nacional D. Maria II reabre as suas portas , e fá-lo com uma ousadia e ironia irresistíveis. A primeira peça a subir ao palco será Macbeth, a mesma que estava em cena na fatídica noite de 2 de dezembro de 1964, quando um poderoso incêndio deixou o teatro em ruínas, alimentando as lendas, superstições e maldições que sempre rodearam esta tragédia de Shakespeare. Macbeth regressa à Sala Garrett para desafiar o destino e combinar assombração e futuro, naquele que será o ato inaugural de um edifício que retoma a sua história, e de um teatro nacional que se quer afirmar enquanto navegante de uma fronteira em que a memória ecoa e o que está por vir se vislumbra. O fogo histórico destruidor e a ambição que consome a dupla de protagonistas entrelaçam-se em cena, numa abordagem contemporânea que reflete sobre a memória e o renascimento, fundindo realidade e ilusão, e ecoando a inquietante pergunta: estará o teatro verdadeiramente livre do seu destino?
