Synopsis The Luís Vicente Trio is one of the most active and relevant formations in contemporary Portuguese jazz, recognised for its adventurous spirit, emotional depth and constant sonic exploration. Led by trumpeter and composer Luís Vicente, the trio features Gonçalo Almeida on double bass and Pedro Melo Alves on drums, two of the most creative and versatile musicians on the Portuguese scene. Together, they build an intense musical dialogue that moves freely between structure and freedom, lyricism and abstraction. After earning recognition for their live performances and recordings, which explore the frontiers between free jazz, contemporary improvisation and lyrical expression, the trio now begins a new phase, expanding into a quintet with two internationally renowned artists: pianist Leo Genovese and American saxophonist Tony Malaby. This collaboration brings together five distinct voices, united by the same openness and willingness to take risks. Genovese's boundless imagination and rhythmic vitality, combined with Malaby's rich timbre and expressiveness, add new layers of intensity and colour to the trio's sonic universe. The result is an electrifying encounter, a dialogue without borders where Lisbon's vibrant creative energy meets the spirit of the New York jazz avant-garde.
