The former Black Midi frontman brings his solo work — from 'The New Sound' to whatever comes next, mixing instrumental chaos with a crooner's attitude — in a sold-out show.

Full details

In Black Midi, Geordie Greep was part of that generation of bands that renewed British post-rock and played regularly at the Windmill, in London. Think Black Country, New Road or even caroline — not a bad scene to be in. Black Midi enjoyed an animosity from critics and audiences unlike the other bands, partly thanks to the way they mixed classic elements from other rock genres and integrated them into a very post-post-whatever stance. That is, until they ended in 2024. It did not take long to hear from their frontman, Geordie Greep. Greep quickly released a solo album. 'The New Sound' immediately marked this territory of someone who now wants to be a kind of Arto Lindsay for a new generation. Making the best use of what distinguished him in Black Midi, his voice, Geordie Greep used it to build a bridge between fans of the band and those of us fans who could come to this life closer to art-rock that embraces various sources of inspiration, whether tropicalism or jazz. With that quick assertion, he wanted to demonstrate his role in Black Midi and how a certain penchant for melodies and for the band's unexpectedness came precisely from him. Did he convince us? Yes, and how. So much so that now, two years later, we eagerly await what may come next, whether a continuation of someone who manages to mix instrumental chaos with a crooner's attitude, captivating us not by the mixture itself, but by the frenetic streak that is born from it, like something that dazzles and is contagious, or something even newer, like a rabbit out of a hat. Why do we think this? Because Geordie Greep has already given us reasons to believe it is possible. Impossible is not expecting the unexpected from him. AS.

Show original (Portuguese)

AS.
