Brief Introduction Transatlantic Biographies is a programme of visits to the permanent exhibition of the Museu de Lisboa, Palácio Pimenta, followed by a conversation about slavery, the Inquisition and religiosity. The inaugural session of this second edition of the programme is dedicated to the story of Luzia Pinta. Synopsis The case against Luzia Pinta, a Black woman from Angola enslaved in colonial Brazil, is emblematic of the complex intersections between racialisation, gender and religion in the Americas. In 1739, Luzia was accused of practices considered heretical by the Portuguese Inquisition, namely African religious rituals and alleged witchcraft practices. Her story and journey are the starting point for the first session of Transatlantic Biographies. Prices General - 5€

A sessão inaugural desta segunda edição deste programa é dedicada à história de Luzia Pinta. Sinopse O caso contra Luzia Pinta, uma mulher negra de Angola e escravizada no Brasil colonial, é emblemático pelas complexas intersecções entre racialização, género e religião nas Américas. Em 1739, Luzia foi acusada de práticas consideradas heréticas pela Inquisição portuguesa, nomeadamente rituais religiosos africanos e supostas práticas de bruxaria.
