Born in Bhutan and residing in Asheville, North Carolina since 2000, Tashi Dorji crafts a vision and gesture on guitar that, more than emerging from a supposed void, absorbs teachings and stories in the vastness of time and the instrument's topography to twist them into his own outburst: from an adolescence energized by the electricity of punk and metal, to then opening up to free jazz, more or less academic experimentalisms and free improvisation as if glimpsing a distant and (potentially) inexhaustible horizon of inspirations that intertwine and dissipate in his own music. Appearing out of nowhere in 2009 with a series of acoustic improvisations recorded on cassette, Dorji quickly left an authorial mark in a series of guitar passages blessed by the ghost of Derek Bailey where freedom unveiled a malleable melodic center shaped by the blues' dolence, fingerpicking vistas, anomalous scales, and silence. Textures born from ingenuity and sensitivity in articulating a fierce attack and graceful gesture, which were alternated between electric and acoustic guitar throughout an immense discography, full of collaborations with people as diverse as Susie Ibarra, Shane Parish, Aaron Turner or Alex Zhang Hungtai; a small sample of the meanders where he has carved his identity, in an agglutinating spirit and, in that process, always generous. Solo, he frequently maps these instincts, between more homey improvisations, live documents and more delineated albums for Drag City, like the recent low clouds hang, this land is on fire. Based on an always politicized vision of resistance, the successor to the tactile ferocity that emanated from Restless' 'torch songs' retreats into a discourse full of lyricism and space, of notes and melancholic chords that reverberate in silence, in an aura that recalls Loren Connors' poetics but is of Dorji's own surrender and vision.

Erica Dawn Lyle is a writer, curator, experimental musician and cultural driver living in New York and Los Angeles. Former touring guitarist for Bikini Kill, Lyle has released, individually, musical collaborations with Kim Gordon, The Raincoats, Bernadette Mayer, Kathleen Hanna, Kim Deal, Brontez Purnell and many others. She also integrates the free jazz and activism duo MYKAWARA, alongside drummer Marshall Trammell. Lyle is the author of Streetopia (Booklyn, 2015) and a contributor to Artforum, Art in America, Frieze and other publications. Her most recent publication is the book The Knight of Cups (Beladonna Press, 2023). Her latest album, On Fire, was released jointly by Feeding Tube and Half A Million Records in October 2025.

Nascido no Butão e a residir em Asheville, na Carolina do Norte, desde 2000, Tashi Dorji engenha uma visão e gesto à guitarra que, mais do que surgida de um suposto vácuo, absorve ensinamentos e histórias na vastidão do tempo e da topografia do instrumento para os torcer num assomo seu: de uma adolescência energizada na electricidade do punk e do metal, para daí se abrir ao free jazz, experimentalismos mais ou menos académicos e à improvisação livre como que a vislumbrar um horizonte longínquo e (potencialmente) inesgotável de inspirações que se enredam e dissipam na sua própria música. Aparecido meio de chofre ali em 2009 com uma série de improvisações acústicas registadas em cassete, Dorji deixou logo marca autoral numa série de passagens pela guitarra abençoadas pelo fantasma de Derek Bailey onde a liberdade descortinava um centro melódico maleável e maleado pela dolência dos blues, pelas vistas do fingerpicking, escalas anómalas, pelo silêncio. Tecituras nascidas do engenho e da sensibilidade em articular um ataque feroz e o gesto gracioso, que foram sendo alternadas entre a guitarra eléctrica e acústica ao longo de uma discografia imensa, pejada de colaborações com gente tão díspar como Susie Ibarra, Shane Parish, Aaron Turner ou Alex Zhang Hungtai; amostra pouco significativa dos meandros por onde tem cravado a sua identidade, num espírito aglutinador e, nesse processo, sempre generoso. A solo, mapeia frequentemente esses instintos, entre improvisações mais caseiras, documentos ao vivo e álbuns mais delineados para a Drag City, como o recente low clouds hang, this land is on fire . Assente numa visão sempre politizada, de resistência, o sucessor da ferocidade táctil que emanava das 'torch songs' de Restless retrai-se num discurso pleno de lirismo e espaço, de notas e acordes melancólicos que reverberam no silêncio, numa aura que relembra a poética de Loren Connors mas que é de uma entrega e visão de Dorji.
