Born in 1891 in Funchal, Engineer Augusto Jayme Telles d'Abreu Nunes arrived in Cascais at a young age, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the municipality. He held prominent positions, such as President of the Sociedade Propaganda de Cascais and, later, as the first President of the Junta de Turismo da Costa do Sol, becoming a true driving force behind local development. We owe Engineer Abreu Nunes emblematic projects, such as the first festive electric lighting at the Boca do Inferno, the organisation of the first equestrian competition, where the Hipódromo Municipal Manuel Possolo now stands, among other projects. Passionate about culture and archaeology, he also fought for the preservation and classification of the Alapraia caves as a national monument, even improving access for the local population. It was also he who promoted the study of the Grutas do Poço Velho, in the heart of Cascais, making it possible to understand that these were the oldest evidence of human presence in the municipality. Nascido em 1891, no Funchal, o Engenheiro Augusto Jayme Telles d'Abreu Nunes chegou a Cascais em tenra idade, para deixar uma marca indelével na história do concelho. Assumiu cargos de relevo, como Presidente da Sociedade Propaganda de Cascais e, mais tarde, como o primeiro Presidente da Junta de Turismo da Costa do Sol, transformando-se num verdadeiro impulsionador do desenvolvimento local. Ao Engenheiro Abreu Nunes, devemos projetos emblemáticos, como a primeira iluminação elétrica festiva da Boca do Inferno, a organização do primeiro concurso hípico, onde atualmente se encontra o Hipódromo Municipal Manuel Possolo, entre outros projetos. Apaixonado pela cultura e pela arqueologia, lutou também pela preservação e classificação das grutas da Alapraia como monumento nacional, melhorando inclusive os acessos à população local. Foi igualmente ele quem promoveu o estudo das Grutas do Poço Velho, no coração de Cascais, permitindo perceber que era aquele o mais antigo testemunho da presença humana no território municipal.
