From its privileged location in the historic neighborhood of Alfama, the Museum develops a vast program that includes the regular holding of temporary exhibitions, the label Museu do Fado Discos, its own editions, seminars and workshops, record and editorial presentations, along with scientific research activities, fostering partnerships with higher education institutions, while openly dialoguing with the holders of knowledge about this practice: performers, musicians, authors, composers or instrument makers. The visit to the permanent exhibition constitutes an immersion in the history of fado and in the characteristic universe of this artistic expression. The visitor to the Fado Museum comes into contact with musical instruments, scores, repertoires and paintings by José Malhoa, Júlio Pomar, João Vieira, Paula Rego, among others. Along the route, hundreds of fados are proposed for listening face-to-face with emblematic works of art, which constitutes a rare and unforgettable experience.
