In O Bestiário, Carla Cabanas presents an installation of sculptures inspired by the imaginary beings gathered by Borges, using gold leaf and family photographs to reflect on imperfection, memory and transformation.

In O Bestiário, Carla Cabanas presents an installation made up of sculptures inspired by the universe of imaginary beings gathered by Jorge Luis Borges in The Book of Imaginary Beings. Among guardian fish, impossible birds, hybrid creatures and mythical figures, the artist creates a territory where reality and fiction intertwine, continually expanding a repertoire of forms, stories and meanings. Each sculpture summons pre-existing narratives and, at the same time, opens up space for new interpretations, arising from the gaze and experience of those who observe them. Using gold leaf as a metaphor for transformation and repair, in an approach to the Japanese traditions of wabi-sabi and kintsugi, Carla Cabanas highlights imperfection as well as the marks of time, impermanence and incompleteness. The incorporation of photographs from her own family history brings these fantastic creatures closer to the human condition, turning them into mirrors of our vulnerabilities, memories and desires. Spread across three interconnected nuclei, O Bestiário leads audiences on a journey between the strange and the familiar, where imagination reveals deep affinities with the experience of life.
