Brief Introduction This ticket grants access to all exhibitions and spaces of the museum, including MAAT Gallery, MAAT Central and MAAT Garden. Inaugurated in October 2016 within the cultural patronage policy long assumed by Fundação EDP, MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology – is an international institution dedicated to promoting critical discourse and creative practice, aiming to foster new understandings of the historical present and a responsible commitment to the future. Located on the riverside of the historic Belém area in Lisbon, MAAT encompasses a thermoelectric plant built in 1908, MAAT Central, and a contemporary building, MAAT Gallery, connected by a garden that stretches along the Tagus River, MAAT Garden. In addition to its program of temporary exhibitions and activities, Agenda, the museum also integrates permanent exhibitions, such as A Fábrica da Eletricidade na Central, or the sculptures in the outdoor spaces. Starting from the multiple layers of history preserved in its cultural and artistic heritage, MAAT advocates a concept of the museum as a catalyst platform for converting discourse into action and empowering the public in exercising their power of choice through the articulation of debate, sharing of positions, and formulation of knowledge. With the aim of encouraging an open and transformative relationship between cultural institutions and social change, the museum simultaneously seeks to question and celebrate the intellectual ambitions and creative means through which we imagine (with art), inhabit (with architecture), and create (with technology) the world we live in – that is, the ways we constantly redefine our collective commitment to the planetary ecosystem to which we belong.
