Concert with Bernardo Tinoco and his new international quartet Creature Close-up, and José Lencastre, a saxophonist and composer of contemporary jazz and free improvisation.

Brief Introduction Bernardo Tinoco Creature Close-up (Bernardo Tinoco, Malina Midera, Minki Cho and Patrycja Wybranczyk) Assuming the paradox of repudiating the sensationalist football talk of the expression 'young promise', for its emptiness and fallacy, while at the same time invoking it, we take advantage of the common place to assure that Bernardo Tinoco has long been a certainty of current Portuguese jazz. A central member of GARFO, a group that includes some of the fundamental musicians in the jazz of his generation, such as João Almeida, João Fragoso and João Sousa, Tinoco has been developing a language - mainly - on the saxophone whose due recognition has happened in real time. With his work on Clean Feed and Robalo being revealing of that, through a beautiful record with pianist Tom Maciel - where Tinoco also shows skill on flute and duduk - and of DAYA, in the company of Marta Rodrigues and João Hasselberg. Presenting here a new international formation, Creature Close Up, with Malina Midera on piano, Minki Cho on double bass and Patrycja Wybrańczyk on drums, Tinoco continues this process of unraveling one or several increasingly vast and his own visions, where jazz moves elegantly in a contemplative and very lyrical space, but open to countless fits and subtle harmonic disruptions, always with meaning. BS ~ José Lencastre José Lencastre is a Portuguese saxophonist and composer whose artistic practice focuses on contemporary jazz and free improvisation. His musical language is characterized by an intense and detailed approach to sound, exploring the relationship between composition and improvisation, as well as the construction of musical narratives in real time. As leader and co-leader of several projects, he has developed consistent work in the context of creative music, with multiple recordings and collaborations with musicians from the national and international scene. His career includes performances in several European countries, integrating festivals, cycles and contexts dedicated to improvised music. In the context of solo performance, he released Inner Voices by the American label Burning Ambulance Music, a work for overlapping saxophones, composed of eight compositions and two improvisations, exploring different sound layers, densities and expressive possibilities of the instrument. He also recorded a solo concert in São Paulo for the BIPE program, later released by Radio Veneno as part of the BIPE Recs series. Beyond performative work, his practice reflects a continuous interest in timbral exploration, collective interaction and the expansion of the expressive possibilities of the saxophone in the context of contemporary music.
