From Anthony, the great hermit of the desert, to the many saints and blesseds who, over the centuries and in different geographies, shared the name António or Antónia, this exhibition proposes a journey through lesser-known stories of sainthood. Curated by Father Luís Miguel Taborda Fernandes, the temporary exhibition Os Outros Santos António (The Other Saint Anthonys) presents a diverse set of figures who, despite sharing the name of Lisbon's most popular saint, developed very distinct paths, devotions and iconographies. Martyrs, missionaries, founders of congregations, religious, bishops, popes and lay people give shape to a geography of sainthood that spans different eras and continents. The exhibition also offers a look at some saints who, due to the proximity of their attributes or models of representation, can be confused with Saint Anthony, revealing the importance of iconography in the identification of religious images. A section dedicated to less common representations of Saint Anthony of Lisbon begins the route, showing other ways of representing and interpreting a figure whose image is deeply rooted in the religious and popular imagination. Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. €4.
