M/16 If the 'blue' of Blue Film refers to the semi-clandestine nature of explicit blue movies, it was also blue that censors under the Hayes Code used to cut films. Context, from the start, for the aura of controversy surrounding Elliot Tuttle's film. Aaron, a hypermasculine cam boy, responds to the generous financial appeal of a much older man, Hank, to meet in an apartment. Hank, masked, fires increasingly disturbing questions, until Aaron recognizes him as his middle school English teacher, imprisoned for sexual abuse. Ghosts emerge and it is on traumas that the film skillfully builds, in a constant power struggle between the two. The sexual act exists almost always under tension, in suspense, as in that scene where Aaron shaves completely, for Hank's erotic pleasure. It is in the dialogues that the drive materializes, in spaced releases, only to return to that place of suspense. Absolute merit of a film that does not moralize, but rather explores and exposes the psychology of the two men, leaving us, the spectators, to judge, in an act of transgression increasingly rare in cinema.
